Starships, as in all space simulations, are an important feature of Infinity. The player (according to pre-alpha details) will be confined to a starship, at least at launch, possibly due to the small development team.
There is expected to be about 100 ships at launch. They can be bought and possibly sold, and each one can be outfitted. It is likely there will be quite a few different classes and abilities in-game. Ships will also have a dirtmap texture, as ships will need to be serviced, or their systems will fail[1].
The player can own fleets, and although he or she is confined to his or her starship, they can also leave the main ship and drive shuttles or other vehicles.
Customisation[]
Ships will be able to be customized by placing equipment like weapons on slots called hardpoints.There is a nonspicialisation policy meaning you can place a gun on a hauler, though it won't be as combat capable as on a fighting craft.

This list is based on this post, it is unknown whether they will appear in the final game, or whether they will be modified in some way, however, some appear in the prototype. It is likely that the bigger the ship, the resources it has to go further.
